Orthognathic Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery, known as orthognathic surgery, corrects conditions of the face and jaw that cannot easily be treated with braces. In addition to affecting your facial appearance, jaw problems may affect your ability to chew, speak, and breathe. The benefits of jaw surgery paired with orthodontics include:
- Improved facial appearance
- Dramatically improved dental health
- Improved function and appearance of teeth
Treatment for Adults & Children
In growing children, Dr. Loo and Dr. Yen can often use orthodontic appliances (headgear or facemask) to direct jaw and bone growth, which may eliminate the need for surgery in some patients. Because most adults have little or no jaw growth, adult jaw surgery may be required along with braces to treat misaligned bites and jawbone abnormalities.
Surgical orthodontics best corrects:
- A protruding chin
- A retruding chin
- An unsightly display of gum tissue about the upper front teeth
- An inability to achieve lip contact when the lips are relaxed
- An overall elongation of the face

Our Treatment Approach
We use the latest in digital imaging technology to demonstrate the functional and aesthetic benefits of orthognathic surgery. Comprehensive planning minimizes treatment times, recovery periods, and the overall efficacy of your surgery. State-of-the-art materials such as titanium plates and miniature screws provide stability, strength, and predictability to your treatment. These advances in technology, procedures, and equipment reduce post-surgical recovery time, thus allowing patients to return to their normal routines soon after the surgery.
