Understanding Breathing Problems During Sleep
Sleep apnea and airway problems during sleep may stem from enlarged tonsils, excess weight, or other factors, and can lead to serious health issues.
Do you struggle to get through the day without a nap, even after a full eight hours of sleep? Maybe you've noticed unusual mood swings, signs of depression, or irritability. These symptoms might suggest something more serious than just feeling down. Sleep apnea or airway issues could be at the root of the problem.
Obstructive sleep apnea is characterized by irregular pauses in breathing during sleep. These pauses can last for 10 seconds or even longer, prompting the brain to awaken the sleeper to resume breathing, leading to the loss of crucial restorative sleep.
We offer airway orthodontics, as well as sleep apnea and snoring appliances. At Braced in BC, we work with sleep clinics and adults, teens, and children to help them overcome these issues and get a better night's sleep.

Airway Orthodontics for Overall Health & Wellness
A restful night’s sleep and the ability to breathe freely are essential for overall health at any age. Our orthodontists take a non-invasive approach to treating the underlying conditions that can disrupt sleep and breathing.
We will develop a customized orthodontic treatment plan focusing on improved breathing and airway health.
A myofunctional examination will look for blockages or constrictions, including abnormally sized or positioned tonsils. A sleep study may be recommended, and X-rays may be taken.
Sleep apnea, snoring, and other airway issues can be treated with clear aligners, custom-made dental appliances, or other orthodontic treatment options.
In more complex cases, surgery may be recommended, and you will be referred to an oral surgeon for further assessment and treatment.
Sleep Apnea & Snoring Appliances
Oral appliances for sleep apnea and snoring resemble a sports mouth guard and come with a convenient case for storage when not in use, making them easy to use, store, and travel with.
Although CPAP machines can be essential, life-saving equipment for some, oral appliances offer a practical and silent way to reduce snoring and improve nighttime air flow and sleep quality in teens and adults experiencing mild to moderate sleep apnea.
It may take a week or two to get used to oral appliances for snoring and sleep apnea. However, following a brief adjustment period, patients typically notice improved sleep quality and reduced daytime sleepiness.
Sleep apnea and snoring appliances are also discreet and simple to use. Custom-made to fit comfortably over your teeth, they are compact enough to fit into a pocket, purse, or backpack when sleeping away from home.
